artwork for Lowell Art Walk 2008

There are 30+ windows in downtown Lowell that have as many artists creations displayed through Sept. 28th.

My window is in the Mambo Grill, a Mexican food restaurant, in downtown Lowell, MA. I initially was only going to do a painting but as thinking about the restaurant the idea of the silverware struck me. The challenge was to create something no larger than 6" deep and that patrons would be seated right behind the work, as the cushions were flush with the windows. Yikes! Safety of the patrons and safety of the work. The painting, abstract menu but can also be read as a plate of food is 24" square. The fork and spoon are approx. 40" and 36" high and are cut from aluminum flashing. I used a nail hole punch to punch a design along the handle edges and at the ends of each utensil. Great fun working with new materials and playing with paints.
